Green Tips for a better environment

I’m Barbara Wagner, an MNA board member. I recently formed a committee to look at ways our neighborhood can become more environmentally friendly. If you’re interested in participating, email me at barbwire8@twc.com.

As part of this effort, I will periodically be posting “Green Tips” — information and advice about becoming more environmentally aware.

Here’s the first one:

Skip the Liquid Plumber and similar chemicals; cleaning gunk from your sink drains can be environmentally friendly — and inexpensive.

Here’s a three-ingredient recipe:

1/4 cup baking soda

1/4 cup vinegar

2 cups boiling water.

  1. Put the baking soda into the drain.
  2. Pour the vinegar into the drain.
  3. Pour the boiling water into the drain.
  4. Let it foam until the baking soda is dissolved.

Voilà! Your drain is fresh and clean without adding harsh chemicals to our waterways.
