Sorry for the late reminder; the third Wednesday of the month snuck up on me this month. The regular monthly meeting of the Mentelle Neighborhood Association board will be Wednesday, March 15, at 7 p.m. in the meeting room around back of the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass, 162 N. Ashland Ave. Any MNA member is welcome to attend.

At this month’s meeting, we will have a short presentation from a development group seeking to rezone the stone yard along Midland Avenue to construct apartments. Afterward I will post details of the proposal.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the 3rd annual Mentelle neighborhood Mardi Gras parade and celebration. We had about 100 people there, including so many adorable kids!  Special thanks to Chad and Jill Walker, owners of The Warehouse Block, for bringing their 1950 Ford farm truck and their pet goat, Itty Bitty, and to Kevin Heathcoat, the owner of Bourbon & Toulouse restaurant, for his support.

Join your neighbors in the Mentelle Park median nearest Cramer Avenue tomorrow from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for the Mentelle Neighborhood’s 3rd annual Mardi Gras Parade!

Chad Walker, owner of the Warehouse Block, is bringing an antique farm truck to give hay rides to the kids. We’re hoping for some musicians. And we’re asking neighborhood kids (and adults if they like) to decorate their bicycles and join in the parade. We  will have $10 gift certificates to Graeter’s Ice Cream for three kids judged to have the best-decorated bikes.  And there will be a gift certificate to Bourbon & Toulouse restaurant for the best-costumed adult in attendance.

We plan to have some coffee and cajun food to help keep you warm, and plenty of beads and masks. And, of course, king cake. See you there!

Two of Mentelle neighborhood’s favorite annual events will be coming up in the next few months. Our third annual Mardi Gras parade will be Saturday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m. And the annual children’s Easter egg hunt will be Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. Both events will be in and around the median on Mentelle Park.  If you would like to help organize or carry out either or both events, please email MNA board member Katie Mueller.

The city’s Parks and Recreation department is seeking advice from neighborhood residents about activities and programs they would like to see at the Kenwick Community Center, 313 Owsley Ave.  If you would like to offer feedback, click here to fill out the online form.

Council member Hannah LeGris wants to hear from 3rd district residents and business owners about their concerns. Also come and learn about the what the city is doing to combat gun violence in Lexington. One Lexington will be giving away a $100 Kroger gift card to a lucky resident in attendance.
