Save the date: Mentelle Neighborhood Picnic returns September 18th

The Mentelle Neighborhood Association is bringing back an early fall tradition. All neighborhood residents are invited to a neighborhood picnic, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 18.

The association will furnish burgers, brats and hotdogs. Please bring a dish to share and your choice of beverage. There will be live music and plenty of activities for kids: street games, face painting, a fire truck and a bouncy house provided by the Warehouse Block. If you would like to help organize the picnic, please contact MNA President Ann Olliges.

The festivities will be on Mentelle Park, in the medians closest to Cramer Avenue. We hope to see you and your family there!

MNA board meeting Wednesday

The Mentelle Neighborhood Association’s board of directors will have its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass, 162 N. Ashland Ave. The meeting room entrance is at the rear of the main building. Any MNA member is welcome to attend.

ITN Bluegrass seeks volunteer drivers

Looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity? Independent Transportation Network of the Bluegrass, which for 14 years has been arranging volunteer drivers to provide door-to-door, arm-though-arm transportation for seniors and the visually impaired, needs more drivers to meet increasing  demand.

Even being able to provide one ride a week for one individual helps – whatever works with your schedule.  Please consider using a bit of your flexible time in this way.  (Drivers earn credits for future rides for themselves or another person.)  For more information, call (859) 252-8665 or go to https://www.itnbluegrass.org

Warehouse Block Advisory Board meets Aug. 4

Walker Properties, which owns and manages the Warehouse Block commercial development along National Avenue, wants to have a healthy and cooperative relationship with its neighbors.

Owner Chad Walker last year created a Warehouse Block Advisory Board, which includes several Mentelle neighborhood residents, to improve communications and discuss issues of mutual concern. The group’s next meeting is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Mirror Twin Brewing. Any Mentelle neighborhood resident is welcome to attend the board’s meetings.

City seeks input on trails plan

On behalf of the Lexington Area MPO, I wanted to extend the invitation once more to participate in the Connect East Lexington Trail Study. You can read more about this planning effort at: www.connecteastlex.com. Please check out this 2-minute survey where you can provide your input on how best to connect Brighton Trail in Hamburg to the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden Trailhead downtown, where the Town Branch and Legacy Trails meet.
Right now, we’re looking for your thoughts on trail design and to help determine how the trail will connect to destinations along the route.

Columbia Gas line replacement update

The Columbia Gas pipeline replacement project is progressing. Testing on the mainline on North Ashland and Cramer will be done next week. Crews will also be posting No Parking signs along Mentelle Park next week in preparation for the new mainline installation there.
